Opening of Stadium Wrocław 2011

Construction of the Stadium in Wrocław, according to the design of JKS Architects studio, began in April 2009. Initially it was led by Mostostal, then due to delays it was taken over by Max Boegl. The total investment costs amounted to over 700 milion zł.

Stadium obtained a permission to use on 8th September 2011.

On 10th September new arena hosted the WBC World Heavyweight Championship and more than 40,000 spectators could watch the historic fight of Vitali Klitschko and Tomasz Adamek live at the stadium. Despite all vigorous support of the thousands of Polish fans Tomasz Adamek had to admit defeat during the tenth round of a remarkable fight. The event was broadcasted in more than 130 countries all over the world. On 17th September George Michael presented himself on the Stadium together with Symphonic Orchestra and performed not only his most famous hits, but also covers of songs of artists such as Amy Winehouse, Rihanna or Rufus Wrainwright. On Saturday October 1, 2011 more than 30,000 visitors came to the Stadium to see the impressive Monster Trucks, motorbike freestyle stunts and other attractions (show acts of Wroclaw´s American Football team “Devils” and the soccer home team WKS Slask Wroclaw). It was the last event organized for the opening of the Stadium in Wrocław.

In June 2012 Poland and Ukraine will be hosting the 14th European Football Championship UEFA 2012. Stadium in Wrocław, will be- together with Warsaw, Poznań and Gdańsk- one of thye fourpolish stadiums hosting this prestigious tournament.
